We are seeking a Patent Specialist to join the Electrical/Mechanical Patent team in our Montreal office. As a Patent Specialist, you will be involved in many of the aspects of patent procurement, including filing of new application, responding to communications from the Patent Office and communicating with our clients in the United States and overseas. As a Patent Specialist you will report directly to a partner in our patent team to deliver top quality services to our clients.
Work jointly with partners to oversee and manage the associate patent practice
Provide support to partners in managing the overall operations of the patent practice
Take a proactive role in improving the efficiency and level of client service provided to associate clients
Managing the correspondence with the patent authorities related to the preparation and prosecution of the patent applications; assists outside counsel in finalizing the application to be filed with the patent and trademark office
Analyzing and amending patent applications based on client instructions
Managing mandates in light of deadlines
Interacting as part of our dynamic patent prosecution team
Providing some coaching to patent operations team and act as a role model
We are looking for candidates with:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a patent procurement department either in private practice or in a corporate environment
University degree or a combination of education and work experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal directly with clients and all levels of staff;
Perfectly bilingual (French-English)
Excellent attention to detail, highly organized and proactive;
Highly proficient in MS Office and ability to learn new software and technology quickly
